PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, BRISTOL & MARIETTA: confidence through faith

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, BRISTOL & MARIETTA, tells his congregation that faith will give us confidence. The Holy Bible says “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” (Deuteronomy 31:6, KJV). God is always with you and will not abandon you. “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.” (Psalms 31:24, KJV). God knows your heart and knows your faith, he will give you strength through your faith. “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee, with the right hand of my righteousness.  Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.  Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be nothing, and as a thing of nought.  For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not, I will help thee.” (Isaiah 41: 10-13, KJV).  God will be beside us and with us as we face whatever it is that we need to face that challenges our courage. He says here that those people who are against us will be taken care of, removed. It is our faith, according to PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, that moves God to give us confidence.  “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” (Ephesians 6:10, KJV). Have faith in the Lord, and He will help you. In Matthew, 15:21-28, Jesus was approached by a Canaanite woman, asking for help for her daughter who was possessed. She was a Gentile, not an Israelite, but she had faith that Jesus could heal her daughter.  Her faith in Jesus, our Lord and Saviour, saved her daughter.

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GODteaches us that our faith gives us confidence, gives us courage, to do what seems to be impossible or improbable. Our faith saves us: our faith in Jesus dying for our sins on the cross, being resurrected from the dead, and being the connection, the bridge between sin and heaven through that sacrifice.  Our faith draws us closer to the cross and to salvation. PASTOR JOHN COLLINS says he used to be so far from the cross, he needed binoculars to see it.  Now, through his faith, he is so close he get splinters in his hands. We all should have that kind of faith-with that faith, we will have the confidence and courage to do what God wants us to do, because God is there for us.

Pastor John Collins, Bringing Back God, BRISTOL & MARIETTA: Jesus doesn’t want lukewarm

Bibles

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, BRISTOL & MARIETTA has said it many times.  Jesus doesn’t want lukewarm.  What does that mean? Jesus says in the Holy Bible “love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment” (Matthew 22: 37-28, KJV). There is no maybe there.  There is no sometimes there. It says everything.  Love God with everythingGive everything.  The verse is actually restating the first commandment that was given to Moses by God.  God wanted us 100% then, and He still does.  There isn’t any halfway.  PASTOR JOHN COLLINS says there are no 23 1/2 hour Christians in heaven.  That means you have to give it all, 100%, every day.  Every day.

The Holy Bible says in Matthew 6: 24 in the Sermon on the Mount, again Jesus saying you have to give 100%, you can’t be lukewarm: “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.  Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”(KJV) Loyalty to God cannot be divided between Him and your personal possessions. Jesus isn’t condemning money or possessions, He is saying that you can’t be chained to your attitude toward wealth and still love God.  You have to give yourself, your soul, to God. Paul preaches “run the race”.  1 Corinthians 9: 24, he says “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize.  So run, that ye may obtain.” (KJV). In other words, run and give it your all.  100%.  And in the giving, according to PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, you get the prize of salvation and eternal life.  You have to give everything.

Pastor John Collins, Bringing Back God, BRISTOL & MARIETTA: Who judges?

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, BRISTOL & MARIETTA, did a sermon about personal change and church congregations judging others. In the sermon, PASTOR JOHN COLLINS read the lyrics from a song by Johnny Paycheck, posted below.  It is called “The Outlaw’s Prayer”:

You know, I worked the Big Packet show in Fort Worth, Saturday night,
We had all day Sunday to rest and relax, before I caught another flight.
So I decided to walk down town an’ get myself a little fresh air.
Before long, I found myself in front of a big church on the corner of the square.

Boy, I could hear that singin’ way out in the street, sure was a beautiful sound.
So I just walked up the steps an’ opened the door an’ started to go inside an’ sit down.
But before I could, a young man walked over to me an said: “Excuse me, Sir,
“But I can’t let you in with that big black hat, those jeans, that beard an’ long hair.

So I just left, went back outside, sat down on that curbing, an I thought to myself:
That’s the house of the Lord. That guy’s got the hell of a nerve.
Tellin’ me I can’t worship anywhere I please.
So right there, in front of that Church, I just knelt down on my knees.

I said: “Lord, I know I don’t look like much, but I didn’t think you’d mind.
“I just wanted to be with your people, Lord: it’s been a long time.
“A while ago, a saw a wino over there in the alley, all bent over in tears,
“An’ I thought how one stained glass window, from this Church, would feed his family for years.”

“Then there’s those fine cars parked outside: too many for me to count.
“Made me think how people walked for days to hear your sermon on the mount.
“Then there’s those fine ladies in the choir, Lord, singin’ like they really love it.
“Hell, last night, they were dancin’ on the front row of my show: drinkin’ beer, screamin: ‘Sing Shove It.’

“You know, even John the Baptist wouldn’t be welcome in this place,
“With his coat made of Camel hair an’ sandals on his feet an’ a long beard on his face.
“You know, Lord, when you come back to get your children, an’ take ’em beyond the clouds,
“To live forever in Heaven with you: well, I’d sure hate to be in this crowd.

“You know, Lord, I’m not perfect; some even call me no count.
“But I’ll tell you: I believe a man is judged by what’s in his heart, not what’s in his bank account.
“So if this is what religion is: a big car, a suit an’ a tie,
“Then I might as well forget it Lord, ’cause I can’t qualify.

“Oh, by the way, Lord, right before they kicked me out, didn’t I see a picture of you?
“With sandals an’ a beard. Believe you had long hair too.”
“Well, this is Paycheck, signing off.
“I’ll be seein’ you Lord, I hope.”

You could have heard a pin drop as he read the lyrics. Particularly compelling was the line “I believe a man is judged by what is in his heart, not his bank account.” The lyrics that point out how much money was spent on a stained glass window-how many people who needed food could that have fed?  How many families go hungry because there isn’t even enough money to buy Ramen noodles, yet church congregations ignore them.  Pastors ignore them.  Churches judge people by what they wear, how they look, how they talk.  Just because someone, a man or a woman, has tattoos doesn’t make them scary to talk to or someone to be afraid of.  Just because someone, man, woman, or child, has dirty shoes or holey clothes doesn’t make them less of a person. Just because they are different, doesn’t mean anything in the sight of God and Jesus.  Don’t judge.  Can you imagine a singer/songwriter like Garth Brooks or George Strait not being allowed into a church?  So what if a guy has long hair?  Makes no difference.  He is still one of God’s children and has just as much right to be in a church as the bank president.

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS  preaches that God wants the sinners in His church.  He wants the people who have the most to lose to have an opportunity of hope.  PASTOR JOHN spoke of changes. We as humans have the right to choose what changes need to happen in our lives. Making changes in our lives to include Jesus is difficult. The path to failure is very wide and easy to follow. The path to being a Christian is narrow and difficult. PASTOR JOHN speaks of Jesus as being the salvation for us on that narrow path through repentance. If we repent and ask forgiveness for our sins, we will find our way in heaven. The Bible says once we accept Jesus into our lives, we are born new. The Holy Bible also says judge not lest ye be judged.  Don’t judge a person by what they look like, how they act, or what they wear.  Don’t judge.  Give them a chance, give them a hand up.  Help them.

Pastor John Collins, Bringing Back God, Marietta & Bristol: Addiction and hope through Christ

Addiction is the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, such as narcotics or alcohol, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma or sickness.  Addiction is also identified as the the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity-something that you just can’t stop no matter what.

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, BRISTOL & MARIETTA, has helped many people overcome their addiction.  Among those people are some of his personal friends. One sermon at BRINGING BACK GOD, PASTOR JOHN COLLINS told of a friend who tried to stay clean for six months then failed. That Sunday, PASTOR JOHN COLLINS told the congregation family at BRINGING BACK GOD that he had spoken to his friend and the friend was five days clean and searching for a church to go to that morning….he lived in another state. In the church congregation that morning were at least five members who were once addicts to either narcotics or alcohol.  The sermon that PASTOR JOHN COLLINS preached spoke of hope and promise and being free of addiction because you become a Christian, like his friend.  Being an addict is difficult.  There are programs to help you quit whatever the addiction is, but it requires commitment to yourself and from others.  To give up an addiction as a Christian requires commitment to Christ.  That’s pretty much it.  PASTOR JOHN COLLINS has said frequently and repeatedly at BRINGING BACK GOD that once you are a Christian and give up your addiction, you are not a recovering anything, you are simply you….a Christian who once had an addiction-and now can witness to others so that they can be saved. Give yourself to Jesus, find your way to the cross, and He will help you conquer that addiction because of your faith.  Your faith heals you.

The Holy Bible says “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he [it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” (Deuteronomy 31:6, KJV). In the New Testament, it says  “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things [are] possible to him that believeth.” (Mark 9:23, KJV).  In Ephesians 4 23-24, KJV it says: “be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” PASTOR JOHN COLLINS puts it more simply-hope is like sunshine, everyone needs a ray of it.  And, when it comes to addiction, there are no recovering Christian anything.  You are just plain Christian.  You are a new creature.  PASTOR JOHN COLLINS also says don’t let what you are today determine what your are going to be tomorrow.

Pastor John Collins, Bringing Back God, Bristol & Marietta: The old is new again

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, BRISTOL & MARIETTA, says that the old is new again. So much of what is in the Holy Bible from the Old Testament to the New Testament to right now is appropriate and new again.  It is wisdom from the ages that is never too old to follow or understand. The first five books of the Holy Bible in the Old Testament are books of Moses.  The Ten Commandments were given by God to Moses and it’s described in the book of Exodus 20: 2-17.  Moses speaks of the Ten Commandments again in Deuteronomy 5: 7-21.  These laws are to live by for all of us, then and now.  To break one is to sin, and one is just the same as the other. Murder=adultery=idolatry=covet=lies. In Proverbs, 6:16-19, it speaks of the seven deadly sins-again pride, lies, murder, slander these are the same and God will reject you from fellowship because of these acts. In the New Testament, Jesus constantly preaches to those who come to hear him and to his disciples to follow these commandments, and clarifies that man is to love the Lord thy God with all  your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength-the first commandment. He also teaches to love others as yourself.  Put others first, do things for others that you would want done for you. In Matthew 15: 4-6 and 18-19, Jesus speaks of evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies-all references back to the writings from Moses.  Paul in Colossians 3: 5-10 emphasizes the same thing after Jesus’ crucifixion. These are appropriate for today, what is old is new, as PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, teaches in his sermons. We still have issues with murder-its on the news every day, using the Lord’s name in vain-speaking of God in an empty manner, lies, adultery, idolatry, fornication-which is lust and looking at others with desire not love, stealing goes hand in hand with coveting-if you want it, take it?! All of these and more go directly back to the original Ten Commandments.

All God wants for us is to follow his laws.  His laws are a basic guideline to being a good person.  Jesus’ teachings tell us how to be Christian in addition to following God’s commandments. God sent Jesus to us to try to fix our sins since we had a difficult time following them in the first place! We as a society, whether in the USA or elsewhere, need to find our way to the cross, to be a better people, to help each other not stomp all over each other on our way to where—-Hell?  Jesus preached to help one another. PASTOR JOHN COLLINS preaches that we need to give a hand up, not a hand out. All we need to do is let Jesus into our hearts.  Repent our sins and mean it.  Then act like a Christian-our deeds and works show we are Christian. This is our way to the cross and to eternal life-which is what we want, right?

Bringing Back God: Don’t look back

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD uses a phrase repeatedly through his blogtalkradio.com sermons and his church sermons.  As a Christian, you aren’t a recovering anything.  You are just plain Christian. You are a new creature. In the Holy Bible, Ephesians 4:23-24 says “And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man , which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” (KJV). Philippians 3:13 it says “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.” (KJV). And Colossians 3:9-10 says “ Lie not one to anther, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; an have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.”

These passages are from letters by Paul of Tarsus, encouraging those to whom he is writing to remember that once you become a Christian, you are a new person-new everything. This is exactly what PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD means when he says you aren’t a recovering anything.  You are just plain you, a Christian you.Don’t say you are a recovering alcoholic, you’re not recovering, you are new in Christ.  Don’t say you are a recovering addict of anything (this can be drugs, food, cigarettes, whatever you are addicted to), you are the new you of Christ.  You have given yourself a new life by accepting Jesus into your heart.  You are finding your way to the cross, as PASTOR JOHN COLLINS says.  Looking back at what you were, in a manner of worrying that you will go back to it or pick up those habits is of Satan.  PASTOR JOHN COLLINSencourages you as a Christian to look at that life and use that experience to tell others what Jesus has done for you in your life.  He helped you kick that addiction to whatever it was.  Use that experience to help others find their way to salvation.

Bringing Back God: Make time

Make time vs. take time.  To take time gives the sense that you will only do something once to get it over withMake time gives the sense of changing a habit, of making it work, over and over.  Which one do you think God would prefer?  A once and done or once in a while relationship or a permanent do it every day, every hour, every minute relationship?  PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, explained in a sermon that God is a jealous God.  He wants what is his to pay sole attention to Him. Not for us to pay attention to ourselves first (selfishness and vanity), not to put football or basketball or soccer or NASCAR first, not to put our family first, but to put Him first in all that we do.  Everything.  We need to make time to honor God.

In the New Testament, Matthew 6:24 says “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” (KJV).  PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, makes it very clear that if you want to serve God, you have to be a 24 hour a day Christian, there are no 23 1/2 hour Christians in heaven.  It’s all or nothing for God. In the Old Testament, Deuteronomy 6:15 says “For the Lord your God in your midst is a jealous God—lest the anger of the Lord your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.” (KJV).  The old is new again, as PASTOR JOHN COLLINS has said.  God has clearly shown his wrath through out the Bible in the Old and New Testaments.  Just because we aren’t seeing the kinds of destruction that is written in the Old Testament doesn’t mean that God isn’t showing us his anger in how our world is today….record breaking snows and ice cold winters, rainfall of biblical proportions, tsunamis, earthquakes, mega storms from hurricanes the likes never seen before….do you really think God isn’t showing us his anger?  All we need to do is realize that God comes first, give him the praise and prayer that he demands and expects, then fix ourselves by being Christian.  God sent us Jesus to die for our sins, so that we could have a chance at redemption and eternal life.  We need to stop throwing that sacrifice back in God’s face.

Bringing Back God: Can you sacrifice for God?

cross 2

One definition of sacrifice is to slaughter or kill as a religious act. Another definition is the act of giving up something that you want to keep especially in order to get something else. There is sacrifice in both the Old and New Testaments in the Holy Bible.  PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, spoke of the sacrifice of Abraham in a sermon and asked the congregation if they would be able to do the same-give up their first born child? Who could? Could you? Abraham did and God spared his son at the last minute. Isaac was Abraham’s only son by Sarah and a miracle in his conceptionAbraham and Sarah were in their 90’s when he was conceived. Abraham had such faith that he followed God’s wish even though he must have felt horrible at the thought of it.  His faith saved his son. Other sacrifices in the Old Testament refer to specific animal sacrifices for redemption of sin. God saw that man could not follow his laws regarding sacrifice of animals, greed and man’s will got in the way. God’s sacrifice to us was His Son Jesus.  God sent Jesus to us, as a human, to be crucified as a sacrifice for our sins. The sacrifice of His Son gives us the way to eternal life and forgiveness of our sins. All we have to do is ask and we will be forgiven, believe and we will have life through our works and deeds, because Jesus died as a sacrifice.  What does God want in return for His Sacrifice?  Us.  Our commitment 100% to Him. To be Christlike. To live a daily life without lies, gossip, cheating, adultery, murder, slander. Each one of those is the same in God’s eyes. The Holy Bible says in a letter from Paul to the Romans “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1 KJV). That is what God wants from us.  Jesus disciples left their way of life, their families and sacrificed what was their normal activities of daily living.  Could you do that today if Jesus asked you?  God’s been asking us to do that since the beginning of time. Sacrifice yourself for God.

Bringing Back God: Get back up and try

Life knocks you down time after time. The unexpected happens, a dishwasher breaks, central air conditioning fails, you are in a car accident, someone gets critically ill, someone dies unexpectedly.  These are all things that happen in the course of a lifetime, it is part of living.  According to PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD,it’s not how many times you get knocked down, it’s how many times you get back up and try.

God offers us the chance to continuously try to do the right thing, to have faith, to be kind to someone, to say “God bless you, I love you“. He gave us His Son, Jesus as a chance for us to have salvation, to find our way to eternal life, through the cross. Jesus died for our sins.  God’s perfect SonGod sent Him so that He could be crucified, to have those nails pounded into His hands and feet so that we could be saved. So that our sins would be forgiven.

The cross is the only way for true prosperity and happiness.  You just have to want to get up and do it, according to PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD.No one said it would be easy to be a Christian.  It wasn’t for the apostles, it isn’t easy now.  In the sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives us the beatitudes, the very last one says “blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you and say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake.” (Matthew 5: 11 KJV).  That is exactly what happens now, same as it did over 2000 years ago.

Put some backbone into your faith.  Stand up for what you believe.  When life knocks you down, get back up, by the grace of God.  Give your fears to Jesus. Bringing Back God: Grace

Have you thanked God lately? God has given us so much: our lives, our Earth, if you live in the USA, our freedoms in our country. PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, reminds us to say “thank you” to God.  Every day.  Through out the Holy Bible, PASTOR JOHN COLLINS points out thanksgiving and praise to God.  David uses the Psalms to praise God and give thanks to Him.  “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye land.  Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves: we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” (Psalms 100:1-5, KJV). Paul gives thanks in Colossians, Romans, 1 Thessalonians, Philippians, Hebrews just about every book that he wrote. “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” (Philippians 4:6 KJV). Thanks to God is in both Old and New Testaments.

The ultimate reason to give thanks to God is for His gift of His Son to us, who He gave to us so that we could be saved, according to PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD.What a gift.  The chance to be saved, the chance to have our sins forgiven, the chance at eternal life.  By God’s grace, we are saved.  God’s grace.  Our lives depend upon God’s grace.  It’s grace that allows us to LIVE. According to PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, BRINGING BACK GOD, we all fall short of the glory of God, the Bible say so.  We are all sinners every one. It’s God grace that allows us to be forgiven for those sins. Every day, every time. There is nothing in the Bible that puts a limit on forgiveness if you break one of the commandments.  No where.  God’s grace allows us to be forgiven every day. We need to give thanks to Him for this grace-the grace of Jesus.  The grace of forgiveness.  The grace of life. The grace of God.  The time is now, it’s God and its grace. Let’s give Him the thanks that He deserves.
