You can’t hide from God-not in the desert or under a rock. He really is everywhere and knows everything. You may think that you are alone, but you are not. God asked Jonah to go to Nineveh and tell them of their sins and that they were going to be destroyed. Jonah ran away from God instead, found a ship, and got on it. While he slept, a storm came up that threatened to sink the ship. The crew knew that Jonah was running away from God, so they woke him up and asked him what should they do to calm the seas. Jonah told them to throw him into the sea because he knew that the storm was because he was trying to hide from God. A big fish swallowed him (Jonah 1:17-KJV). He spent three days and nights in the fish, repented and was released. He did go and preach to Nineveh, and the people repented so the city was saved.
While we may not understand why God is asking us to do something, we can’t run or hide from Him. There is a purpose for everything. Jonah was supposed to talk to the people of Nineveh, and in the end when he did what God wanted, they prayed, repented and were spared. Jonah asked for forgiveness and was released from the big fish. He tells us he loves us all through the Bible, and He gave us His Son so that we could ask for forgiveness and be saved. This is our hope. Hope is like sunshine, everyone needs a ray of it.
